Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Convenor Arvind Kejriwal has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the government to prioritize waiving loans for farmers and the middle class instead of wealthy individuals. In his letter, Kejriwal emphasized, “The Prime Minister should announce that no loans for the rich will be forgiven. If loan waivers are to be made, they should be directed towards farmers and middle-class home loans. This will provide substantial relief to the middle class.”

Kejriwal also argued that not waiving loans for the wealthy could allow the government to lower tax rates. “I’ve calculated that if these loans aren’t forgiven, tax rates could be halved. A person earning 12 lakhs annually pays their entire salary in taxes—that is the struggle of the middle class,” he added.

In addition to this, AAP is focusing on retaining its traditional support base of slum residents ahead of the Delhi Legislative Assembly Elections. The party is strategizing to strengthen its hold on this crucial voter demographic, particularly as both the BJP and Congress attempt to court slum voters.

AAP sources revealed, “In recent days, we’ve seen how BJP is actively trying to attract slum votes. To counter this, we have devised a plan to retain the slum vote through our campaign and community engagement.”

A central component of the plan involves mobilizing educated youth from slum areas, many of whom have studied in Delhi government schools and have influence within their communities. These youth will be trained to engage with slum residents and inform them about the benefits of AAP’s government schemes.

“We’re using this network to communicate with slum dwellers, showing them how AAP’s government has worked in their favor, whether it’s through free electricity and water, free education and healthcare, or improvements like lane and sewer construction in slums, along with new schemes in the upcoming government,” the sources added.
